Facebook is losing young users faster than expected, according to new eMarketer estimates. Last year, the digital measurement company predicted that Fb status would see a 3.4 percent drop in users aged 12 to 17 in the United States in 2017, the first time they expected a decrease in the use of any group of people. age on Facebook. This is the first time that eMarketer expects an annual decrease in use for this age group, even if this has happened before. In 2016, the Facebook user base of children aged 18 to 24 fell by 1.5 percent. 

Take the numbers with grains of salt: eMarketer is an external research company, so it does not have the full picture, for example, Facebook. But the fact that eMarketer expects it to decrease in all areas is a bad sign for Facebook, regardless. Young people offer a good measure of what is common, but what is most important for Facebook, the loss for the next generation of Internet users in the United States is worrisome because of the company's long-term dominance. 

The good news for Facebook is that, despite the expected decrease in younger users, eMarketer believes that the public Facebook audience in the United States will continue to grow in the coming years. More importantly, eMarketer can expect the growth of Instagram that Facebook has. The research firm believes that Instagram's user base in the United States will grow 13 percent this year, to almost 105 million people. This is better than the expected growth on Snapchat: eMarketer believes it will increase its audience in the United States by 9 percent by 2018. That would give Snapchat about 86.5 million users by the end of the year.
